About Not The Average Mama

GeorgeStreetWedding 356

My name is Jessica and I am a 29 year old wife and step mom to 2 beautiful children for the past 6 years.

I began blogging to document my journey and lessons through this crazy, blended, beautiful life.

Being a step mom is not exactly what I saw in my future growing up, but it is the most wonderful gift I could of ever received.

I have grown as a woman and mother from these unique circumstances and can’t wait to share them with all of you!

  1. I came here to thank you for the follow, but I just read your post for ‘F’ is fo families and it blew my mind. Wow. You are such an amazing woman to have held it through all this time and I love the tagline “taking the step out of step parent” 🙂 I also agree, that the term “step-parents” are so much prejudiced and its high time people let know their kids that Cinderella and Snow white are one-off occurences :\ So glad to have discovered your blog 🙂 Cheers and Warmest wishes, Minaxi ❤

  2. I understand you totally, when you give your best, sometimes, it is appreciated but other times it is overlooked. Even the kindest stepmom is seen as “bad”. I wear the shoes too. Mine is really lovely. Nice meeting you.

  3. Coming from a blended family myself, I have to say “You go, girl!” What an excellent resource your blog and experience can be for others! (And you totally GOT me with the tree climbing photo!)

  5. Hi, Jess, I’m here because of Steph. She contacted me because of Kindness challenge in which I participated with my post https://onetahayes.com/2016/05/14/me-and-a-list/. You and she have an interesting interaction. A great example of honesty, caring, and understanding. She marked my follow so I’m returning with marking follow for each of you. I am great grandmother and have never faced your situations, but I have grandchildren who are living in blended families. The children benefit from peace and acceptance by all involved. I’ll be seeing you more.

  6. I’m a step mom too but I call myself the other mother. It’s not easy and often there’s no reward. For 7 yrs I’ve been the other mother and the natural mom and I have had interactions both good and bad.

    • My kid’s bio mom is a blogger on wordpress as well. Before we discovered each other on here our interactions weren’t great but they weren’t horrible…more along the line of awkward. Now we get along great and it has been an amazing journey the past month of getting along and becoming friends. She calls me the kid’s other mom as well. I love that a lot better then step mom.

  7. I’m here because you liked a comment on a meet and greet, in fact the very comment that said if anyone liked a post or comment I made then I’d come find the blogger that did it et voila 🙃

Fascinating big it is too…how long have you been doing this if you don’t mind me asking…or following for that matter 😊

  8. It’s nice to ‘meet’ you! I’m a bonus mom to a teenager (she was 5 when she magically entered my world), and I have two boys as well .. All three are amazing little brats. 😉 You are so right .. Parenting is hard, step or otherwise. I look forward to reading more from you!
